Uranus is in Gemini!
Today is the day that countless sky watchers and dreamers have been thinking about for a very long time. This morning at 12:47 AM Pacific, Uranus (which stays in a sign for almost eight years) moved into Gemini for the first time in 84 years. The changes to come are hard to overstate.
Uranus, discovered in 1781, brings us sudden shocks or disruptions. It is a jolting, revolutionary energy associated with great genius and liberation from stagnant patterns personal and collective alike. Astrologer Richard Tarnas was the first to liken its archetype to Prometheus, the mythological figure who stole fire from the gods and gave it to humans.
As punishment for this crime, Zeus chained him to a rock, where an eagle would devour his liver not just once, but every single day in a “Groundhog Day” fashion. It’s not easy to be someone who sets humanity free.
As often happens with astrology, Uranus was in Gemini when it was discovered, and its archetypes were already in full expression. This was the Age of Enlightenment, which saw the first anti-slavery petition (1783), the publishing of Mary Wollstonecraft’s A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792), the early Industrial Revolution, American Revolution, as well as seeds of the French Revolution.
Gemini (an air sign ruled by Mercury) and Uranus are associated with ideas, communication, technology, science, and speed. It was around this time electricity was harnessed.
On a more somber note, this planetary ingress corresponds to the United States being in a war. The last three times it was in Gemini (1774-1782, 1859-1866, and 1941-1949) the US saw the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and World War II.
These periods also featured major advancements in communication and transportation, such as the telegraph, railroads, and early forms of photography.
What will it mean for humanity this time around? The answer might lie in the current configurations of the other outer planets Pluto (in Aquarius) and Neptune (in Aries). Together with Uranus they paint a lovely air trine with a fiery sextile in the middle – all yang energy of idealism, transformation, action, and future thinking – which will be with us for many years. The late astrologer Andre Barbault, who predicted the 2020 pandemic many years before his death, speculated 2026 would bring “a splendid relaunch of civilization.”
Many astrologers believe that indeed, the rest of 2025 will be as bumpy as it’s been in the recent past, but that 2026 will usher in a grand, new era rendering the world as we know it unrecognizable. It’s not a stretch to envision the possible advances in medicine, technology, and political structures.
The structures have been crumbling for a long time. We can all see it and feel it. I believe one such structure will be money as we know it. More on this topic later, but for now suffice to say that our broken banking system is the root of so much evil, greed and suffering. Could it be that there is a new way to transact and save? Could there exist a true “sound” money?
